Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Center for Healthy Sex offers a therapeutic modality called Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Ketamine is a legal, safe, and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and process addictions. KAP can be a powerful supplemental treatment to help clients who:
- Feel stuck in their healing or recovery process
- Struggle with treatment resistant depression, OCD, or PTSD
- Desire to do deeper work to access grief or trauma
- Want to foster a stronger will to make lasting changes
- Seek greater insight and want a safe, supported inward journey
How does it work?
Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hours after treatment. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA receptors, which help form new synaptic connections while boosting neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
Center for Healthy Sex offers KAP that includes 32-hours of treatment over the course of 16-weeks using a high dose, rapidly dissolving tablet (RDT) form of ketamine. In a series of repeated dosing and integration sessions, you will be guided by your therapist through a deeply healing experiential process that can be customized to either take place in our office or via telehealth in the comfort of your own home.
If you and your therapist determine you are a good candidate for KAP, your therapist will refer you to Journey Clinical for an initial medical evaluation. The medical professional will work with you and your therapist to develop a KAP treatment plan and prescribe medication to be used in session with your therapist.
What is the cost of KAP treatment?
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy: Center for Healthy Sex offers a standard KAP package that provides approximately 32-hours of treatment over the course of 4-months. Session fees for KAP are approximately $220 per hour. Insurance receipts can be provided for all but 2-hours of each dosing session with your therapist.
KAP Medical Evaluations: Journey Clinical accepts some insurance. If in-network, the cost of the medical evaluations required for KAP treatment will be covered. You can use this link to learn more about what insurance plans Journey Clinical accepts or request a free benefit check using this link. If you plan to pay out-of-pocket for your Journey Clinical evaluations and Journey Clinical determines you are not eligible for KAP treatment, they will waive their evaluation fee.
